Australia Part 6 - Ayers Rock (Uluru)

Ayers Rock (or Uluru), is considered a sacred place in the original inhabitants - Aborigines - Australia. In escaping the sun, or at dusk or at dawn, Ayers Rock looks like a stretched out in the middle of the desert giant piece of glowing, red-hot magma. Ayers Rock, the sacred rock of the fifth continent - Australia - in the evening, at sunset, the sun emits pure red light! It is an amazing sight, but in fact Ayers Rock is composed of sandstone. This colossal sandstone - the breadth over 2.9 kilometers and a length of more than 3.6 kilometers in height as the mountain rises to as much as 350 meters. Ayers Rock is located in the south-west of Alice Springs, it is considered as one of the largest rock monolith in the world, and the most holy place in Australia.

The Great Barrier Reef is the largest coral reef in the world. Those tourists who are tired of a beach holiday, it may be advisable to take a tour to the Great Barrier Reef. It is an amazing natural system, consisting of more than 2,500 large and small reefs. The Great Barrier Reef stretches along the Queensland coast as if some kind of "Ribbon", a width of 20 to 300 kilometers. As long as the Great Barrier Reef stretches as much as 2,000 kilometers! Many coral formations just above the level of the sea, turning into a kind of small islands.

Casbah of Algeria has about 1,700 homes and more than 80,000 people! Originally, the word "Casbah" in Arabic meaning Citadel on the west overlooking the city. Gradually, the term "Casbah" and covered almost the entire city as Ancient walls that protected the Kasbah and the upper and lower parts of the city have disappeared ...
But the condition of the Casbah today? Kasbah resist natural disasters that regularly occur in Algeria, which is located on a tectonic fault? Two associations are trying to save the Kasbah, despite the weak state aid and political disinterest in it. These two associations are called "Saving Casbah» (Sauvons la Casbah) and 'Casbah Association »(Association Casbah).

Lithuania part 7 - The Curonian Spit


The Curonian Spit - dancing forest

The Curonian Spit stretches from the Sambian Peninsula on the south to its northern tip next to a narrow strait, across which is the port city of Klaipėda on the mainland of Lithuania. The northern 52 km long stretch of the Curonian Spit peninsula belongs to Lithuania, while the rest is part of the Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia (see the map). The width of the spit varies from a minimum of 400m in Russia (near the village of Lesnoy) to a maximum of 3,800 m in Lithuania (just north of Nida).
